One of the important questions about the issue of Imamate is the existential philosophy of the infallible Imam. "What is the necessity of Imamate?" And "What are the benefits and blessings of having an imam and an infallible successor for the prophet?" Hojjat-ul-Islam Vahid Vahidjavan, a professor at Tehran University, examines this issue:
Many books and articles can be written about the philosophy of Imamate, but in short, a few analyzes are mentioned:
-The first analysis for Imamate philosophy(Imam guides people towards true growth):
Man needs a detailed and calculated plan for the flourishing of his many talents.The human mind understands that as God has created these many talents in him, he must also provide a plan for his growth and development so that man can do them with his own will and choose and flourish his talents.
The one who brings the plan of growth and development from Almighty God is called a prophet. The philosophy of prophethood brings us to the philosophy of imamate. That is, the need for a prophet also encourages people to replace the prophet.
The explanation is that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) brought the Holy Quran to guide humanity, which is the most comprehensive and complete program of guidance. Considering that there will be no prophet after him and the prophethood has ended, people need someone who is like the prophet to guide people so that people do not make scientific and practical mistakes in understanding the Holy Qur'an and the true way of growth. Guidance through the prophets is incomplete.
-The second analysis for Imamate philosophy (Imam is a practical model for humanity and guidance):
In the philosophy of prophecy, we said that for the education and development of human beings, only knowledge and awareness and program are not enough, but providing models and indicators of growth and development will guide people more. Thus, in addition to the knowledge obtained from revelation, a teacher and a human model are also necessary to penetrate the souls of people, inspire their trust in themselves, and be an indicator of distinguishing between right and wrong, and guide people to happiness.
-The third analysis for the philosophy of imamate (the imam is the leader of the community and the custodian and explainer of God's religion):
Considering that the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the Seal of the Prophets and the Holy Qur'an is the guide of mankind until the Day of Judgment, the intellect understands that there must be people to oversee and manage this religion, to take care of God's religion, to explain its problems, to the questions of the day. answer and implement that religion in the society.
The result is that the existence of the Imam is a favor from God, he guides people towards true growth, he is a practical model for humanity and the issue of guidance, he is the guardian of society and the guardian of God's religion and its explainer, he completes the proof for the servants, he is the mediator of grace. God is like other creatures, and without Imam, God cannot be known and worshiped, and without Imam (perfect human being), the goal of creation cannot be realized.
