Steel Lagoon is a lake with floating trees that will amaze you. This lake is one of the most beautiful places in Astara that attracts many tourists with its natural beauty and pristine landscapes.
The floating alder trees are the amazing secret of the Steel Lagoon in Astara. The roots of these trees are buried in the soft mud of the lagoon floor and move slowly in the water with the slightest breeze. This dreamy and unique sight has made Steel Lake one of the most unique natural attractions in Iran. The 140-hectare Estil Wetland is one of the most beautiful and unique freshwater wetlands in northern Iran, located 7 kilometers from the city of Astara. This wetland was selected as one of the five exemplary tourism areas of Gilan Province in 2005 and has since become one of the most important tourist attractions in the region. As we said, the alder trees of this lagoon are one of its most peculiar features. The movement of these trees in the middle of the lagoon has given Astara Steel Lake the nickname of the moving lake. In addition to the trees, this lagoon hosts many migratory birds that travel to this area in different seasons of the year.
Of course, we must say that despite all the beauty and tourism potential of Steel Wetland, this wetland, like other wetlands, struggles with the problem of water scarcity. Although this problem has been partially resolved with the increase in rainfall in recent years, water scarcity still threatens this wetland and the animal species in this area. Estil Wetland is located in western Gilan, 7 kilometers south of Astara. This wetland is located on the Astara-Rasht route, next to the main Talesh road.
The Astara Steel Lagoon has its own charm in every season of the year. But in general, spring and autumn are the best times to visit this lagoon. In these two seasons, the weather is mild and pleasant, and there is no summer heat or winter cold.
Also, in the spring, due to increased rainfall, the water level rises and the nature around Steel Lake becomes greener and more beautiful. Autumn is also a good opportunity to see migratory birds that migrate to this beautiful lagoon.
The flora and fauna of the Steel Lagoon is very diverse and contains more than 80 plant and animal species. To the east of the lagoon, floating alder trees are a unique feature of the area. The roots of these trees are in the water, making them appear to float. This phenomenon adds a special beauty to the Still Lagoon.
To the west of the lagoon, there are lush and dense forests that create a beautiful landscape. In addition, reeds, water lilies and ferns are other plant species in this area. The fauna of Lake Steel is as rich and diverse as its vegetation. A variety of fish and amphibians such as carp and duckfish, frogs and salamanders live in this lagoon.
In addition to fish, the lagoon hosts a variety of migratory birds from Central Europe, the northern Caspian Sea, and the Arctic regions, such as ducks, geese, swans, storks, and mallards. Animals such as jackals, foxes, wild boars, and otters were also observed around the lake.
Steel Wetland is the first stop for birds that have begun to migrate from various cold regions or neighboring countries.
Walking along the edge of the lagoon is one of the most enjoyable activities you can experience in this area. Watching nature, the sound of birds singing, and the fresh air will create an unforgettable memory for you.
