Valuable ports of Iran

Valuable ports of Iran

The development of transportation is directly related to the economic growth of the country, maritime transportation as one of the oldest types of goods movement, has found a more important place in the macroeconomic model of the international economy and globalization.
As one of the links in the supply chain, ports play a very important role in facilitating trade, for example, 90 percent of the total weight of intercontinental trade goods and 40 percent of the total weight of goods traded within the European Union pass through ports. Ports, as one of the key points in the supply cycle, provide food to other industrial sectors, and for this reason, more than 5 million jobs have been provided directly and indirectly in the European Union by ports.
Iran, with more than 5800 kilometers of water border and more than 250 small and large ports in the Middle East and North Africa region, has a special historical weight and strategic position, on the other hand, unlike other developed countries, whose population and industry are more concentrated on the coasts. Iran's coasts are sparsely populated and less developed, such that only 22.5% of Iran's population lives in seven coastal provinces.
The relative density of the population in the northern provinces is about 120 people per kilometer and in the southern provinces less than 30 people per square kilometer, while according to international statistics, about 40% of the world's population lives by the seas and up to a distance of one hundred kilometers from the sea. and about 60% of the world's cities with a population of more than six million people are located near the coasts.
The development of a port cannot and should not be done easily and without planning due to its intertwining with the supply cycle, some ports are a source of added value and create more jobs, and by having ports beyond the province, they have a national status. and they are beneficial, while other ports are behind in terms of efficiency and reliability indicators and this difference in the level of performance in the national scope affects the flow of imported and exported goods, ports with poor performance indicate the loss of opportunities and They are a waste of resources.
In order to define and explain maritime jobs, we have to present a new concept of maritime industry within the framework of maritime clusters and not limit it only to shipping, ports and shipbuilding, but also things such as: maritime and coastal tourism and wind power plants. Let's consider
For example, currently 10% of the capacity of wind turbines in the European Union have been installed on the coasts and they have created employment for 58,000 people.
Creating employment in the coasts and ports of the country can be pursued from the perspective of the following:
- Creating employment through the boom of shipbuilding: the country has a high potential for the boom of shipbuilding in the south and north coasts, and currently the infrastructure of shipbuilding and boatbuilding complexes and workshops in Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Neka, Khorramshahr, Qeshm, Kanarak and... are available, also the quality level of ship repair services in dry basins can be improved to increase the productivity of these basins and attract more customers.
- Creating employment through marine equipment manufacturing workshops
- Booming employment in ports
-Employment in the recreational boating sector
-Employment in the shipping sector
- Wind energy jobs
- Tourism jobs
- Professional and recreational fishing jobs
are among these cases.
