5 Religious Attractions in Tehran

As we know the crowded capital of Iran (Tehran), isn’t the oldest city of the country. It has lots of beautiful religious places, maybe they are attractive for foreign tourists to see that. There are different religions in Tehran. Not only there are lots of different Islamic mosques in Tehran, but also there are lots of churches, synagogue, zoroastrians’ chapel too. We want to introduce 5 Religious Tourism Attraction in Tehran for you. If you ever come to Tehran in Nowruz holiday, make sure to pay a visit.

Imamzadeh Saleh

Imamzadeh Saleh is located in north of Tajrish with a landscape of Alborz mountains. It is one of the oldest and famous religious shrines in Tehran.
Statistics show that 30000 people visit this holy shrine for pilgrimage in a day. Imamzadeh Saleh is one of Imam Kazim’s (seventh Imam of Shia) sons and is Imam Reza’s brother. According to old inscriptions in this shrine, this place was built in 79 AD. After that other sites like Tajrish Bazaar and commercial buildings built near this holy shrine. Imamzadeh’s building is in Iran national remnant list from 1972.

Tehran sightseeing, Iran thumping heart, the tailing of azure thole and its minaret shows the traditional style in Safavid era. These places impend to the streets that are behind Tajrish Bazaar. Religious places are local shrines and their inner space is like Iran mosques. After you pilgrimed in this shrine you can visit other spectacular places in Tehran that placed around Tajrish square, such as Tajrish Bazaar, Qaem mall, citadel and figure, ValiAsr street, Sa’dabad palace, museum garden of Iranian art.

Tehran Temple (Mosalla)

This is one of the biggest mosques in Tehran. Dr Parviz Moaiied was its architect and its designer whom started building this mosque from 30 years ago.
This temple has 230 height and its vast dimensions are about 650000 meters. This building has a modern structure. Mosalla has a balcony that its height is 72 meters in number of karbala fatalities and the mosque height is 63 meters in respect to the duration of Islam prophet’s life.

 

Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine

There is an ancient religious city in south of Tehran, before Tehran popularity, this place was an important political center. This tomb is related to Ilkhani, Safavid and Qajar period. This shrine shows off with its big central yard, beautiful and golden thole. This place absorbs lots of Shia pilgrims from around the world. Due to its importance, it’s registered as one of international remnant of Iran on February 1st, 1956.

 

Zoroastrians Fire Temple

As you know Yazd and Kerman named as a customary center of Zoroastrians. This religious society has a chapel between Jomhoori and Enqelab street in the center of Tehran. Adrian temple is related to Qajar period and registered as one of Iran national remnant on February 1st, 2003.
Adrian temple foot stone established in 1914 with the presence of Lord Keikhosro Shahrokh who was the principal of Zoroastrians in Tehran. There is an eternal flame in the center of this building which is burning and should never be snuffed. Therefore the priests who wear white clothes are responsible for investigating to it.

Saint Sarkis Cathedral

Saint Sarkis Cathedral is an Armenian church in Karim Khan Zand street, and it is the biggest churches in Tehran.
Due to population increment in Tehran, there wasn’t enough space for Armenian affairs such as, caliph-ism and doing Armenian’s responsibilities in sacred Maryam church. Because Christians increment in north of Tehran was intense, government solve this problem by building another church in new areas and Armenian’s affairs became possible in the bigger building.

So Markam Serkisian, an Armenian benefactor, bought a piece of land to establish a church. This church was being built from 1343 to 1349.
The building is gray and mingled with civic vision. while its inner space is a combination of colorful modern art and Armenian traditional art.
