Relationship between sister and brother

Relationship between sister and brother

Siblings are usually our first playmates and our oldest friends. The deep relationship we develop with our siblings has a significant impact on our lives and we even learn many social and conflict resolution skills while dealing with them.
How much does sibling relationship play a role in our growth?
Younger siblings teach older siblings empathy, and siblings who are closer to each other are more likely to positively or negatively influence each other's academic fate. Also, some researchers have found a connection between these relationships with depression, anxiety and self-harm by examining the negative points.
According to Mark Feinberg, a professor of human development studies at the University of Pennsylvania, the sibling relationship is as influential as the parent-child relationship on a child's emotional, cognitive, and psychological development. It is surprising that this relationship forms a significant part of the human psyche during childhood. Various researches have been done about this relationship and its role in human cognitive and emotional development, and it is necessary for parents to understand the positive and negative effects of this relationship, because in this way they can raise children better.
Concordia University researcher says: "Siblings are usually our first playmates. A sibling relationship is like a laboratory where we learn how to interact with others. "Children who have older siblings develop a theory of mind, which allows us to put ourselves in the shoes of others, earlier than their only children."
Sometimes a child is born, it becomes the center of attention of the parents and the people around it and receives a positive response to all its dependencies and requests, but when the second child comes, the attention is unconsciously focused on the second child and the first child sees its so-called throne in danger and From the beginning, he looks at the second child as a competitor. Despite this, with parents' planning and careful behavior, this feeling can be greatly reduced in the first child. From the moment the second child is in the mother's womb, parents should inform the first child and let him know about the existence of a sibling, and they should do this in such a way that the first child feels good about the sibling. . You can tell him that you want to bring him a playmate and that he can play with him when he grows up.

Conflict and even violence in a sibling relationship stunts growth," says Feinberg. "Children who are involved in such relationships are more prone to depression, drug use, and academic problems."
One of the most important factors influencing the relationship between siblings is the behavior of parents with their children. Parents can pass their appropriate behavior to their children. "If parents demonstrate that they can resolve conflicts properly and logically, children will learn to do the same," says Feinberg. He also recommends that parents set certain standards of behavior. For example, they should expect their children to always be friends and helpers in all stages of life. Feinberg emphasizes that parents should never consider bullying and fighting between children as normal and acceptable.
Sibling relationship is a deep relationship that many people experience in their lives. The health of this relationship plays an important role in the happiness of people. If this relationship gets into trouble, its effects and harmful consequences may stay with the person for the rest of his life. The role of parents in creating a healthy relationship between children is very important.
