(Two eyes for colorlessness)
In this article, we want to talk about glasses, which is for people with color blindness. First, we will talk about, who has color blindness.
The retina has cone cells. These cells contain pigments that, by properly processing the primary colors, red, green, and blue, result in a wider range of colors.
Color blindness has many causes, the most important of which is a genetic problem.
You have probably heard of glasses made for color blindness. These days, colored blind glasses are advertised for people who have common forms of color blindness called red-green.
Hereditary color blindness - also called visual impairment - has no cure today. But for some people who have a milder type of green-red color, special glasses for color correction can improve the vision with more contrast between some colors. The results vary depending on the type and degree of individual vision loss.
Genetic color blindness is caused by the absence or difficulty in the operation of one or more cone foresighters from the color sensor in the retina. People who have difficulty recognizing green light (deuteranomaly) or red light (proteanomaly) experience an overlap between some light wavelengths that the brain interprets as red or green.
Evan Schwab, a professor of ophthalmology at the University of California, Berkeley, explains: »
According to Dr. Schwab, some light is blocked through the glasses so that the remaining red and green wavelengths do not overlap. With less color overlap, the brain receives a clearer signal to help distinguish between problem colors.
Blind glasses do not work in people with complete red-green blindness.
These glasses have no therapeutic effect on the optic nerves and the human visual system, meaning that the positive effects of the glasses are only as long as they are worn on the eyes.
Dr. Schwab explains that glasses change what people look at with glasses and increase the distinction between red and green. But this experience varies greatly from person to person and type of color blind. It should also be noted that these glasses do not return the true and natural color.
Because these types of glasses reduce the amount of light that is visible, they may not be suitable for use at night. Especially for people who have other eye conditions such as cataracts or macular degeneration, it can be a problem.
Is there another way to treat color blindness?
Hopes for gene therapy have been raised in recent experiments on animal samples, but no such treatment has yet been tested on human samples.
It is hoped that the root of these diseases will be eradicated and that there will be no humans with such diseases.
